What is GDPR compliance?

Intellectual privacy and data protection are essential when customers trust entities to safeguard their data collection, storage and dissipation. General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, is a regulation that ensures businesses can safeguard the personal data and privacy of European Union citizens, or that of data exported outside the EU. 

GDPR compliance covers the protection of data, including:

• Personal identification data, like name, address, etc. 
• Web data, like location, IP address, etc. 
• Biometric data
• Health and genetic data
• Political opinions

What factors must be considered when becoming compliant?

Becoming GDPR compliant requires the close consideration of the following aspects (amongst others):

• The storage, transfer, access, and security of electronic information
• Document retention schedules alongside their implementation
• Written consent of compliance
• Documentation detailing data protection guidelines
• Types of data that is being stored and transferred
• Data accessibility
• Data content

The overview of this task is undertaken by the in-house Data Protection Officer.
